Let’s talk about Ventricular Fibrillation

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a self perpetuating cycle of uncoordinated ventricular depolarisation resulting in disordered and ineffective contraction of the ventricles. VF is the the most important shockable cardiac arrest rhythm.

Criteria

  • No identifiable waves or complexes.
  • Chaotic irregular deflections (varies amplitude).

Types of VF

  • Fine VF: waveforms measure <3 mm.
  • Coarse VF: waveforms measure ≥3 mm.
